Clinton, NY – Hamilton College Performing Arts presents Mantra Percussion with cellist Ashley Bathgate on Saturday, April 5 at 7:30 pm in Wellin Hall, Schambach Center.
Mantra Percussion, Inc. is a future-focused organization committed to a lasting influence on percussion music through the creation of new works by living composers and creators from across the social spectrum — establishing lasting relationships with our collaborators; by developing equitable music communities through collaboration, support, and concert presenting; by mentoring new generations of diverse artists to significantly reshape the classical music landscape; and by engaging audiences through immersive, evening-length events that convey a grander artistic vision.
The ensemble will present Matt McBane’s Topography with cellist Ashley Bathgate. Topography is a septet for cellist Ashley Bathgate and percussion sextet. The 45-minute piece is made up of six individual movements ranging from textural, ambient slow-movements focused on sound design, to pattern-based, contrapuntal fast-movements anchored by interlocking rhythms in the drums. The movements of Topography are made of big gestures and gradually changing patterns that accumulate to evoke open spaces and natural landscapes.
Composer Matt McBane will present an artist’s talk back after the performance.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for senior citizens and $5 for students. For more information, call the box office at (315) 859-4331 or visit www.hamilton.edu/performingarts. This performance is funded in part by the New York State Council on the Arts.
