UTICA, NY – 50 Forward Mohawk Valley is excited to announce that it received a $75,000 Grant from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation to help expand its Volunteer Senior Non-Emergency Medical program.
The $75,000 investment from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation will allow 50 Forward to expand its Volunteer Senior Non-Emergency Medical program to help improve access to non-emergency health care, and increase efforts to recruit additional volunteer drivers for the program. There is a huge demand for requests for rides to doctor’s appointments from older adults who no longer drive. This grant will allow 50 Forward to purchase two additional vehicles for volunteer drivers to use to help fulfill the requests for rides.
The Volunteer Senior Non-Emergency Medical program uses older adult volunteers to assist other older adults, who have been referred to 50 Forward by Oneida County Office for Aging, get to their doctors appointments. Volunteers have the option of using their own vehicle and getting reimbursed mileage or can use one of the agency vehicles, which this grant is helping to purchase. This program covers all of Oneida County. If someone is interested in becoming a volunteer driver, please contact 50 Forward’s Volunteer Coordinators at 315-235-2029 or 315-223-3973.
