The New York State Correctional Officers Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA) has declared its strong support for the reelection of Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon.
“It’s hard to imagine a more difficult and stressful job than that of a correctional officer in New York’s prisons. It is not enough to thank the members of NYSCOPBA with words, we must thank them with our actions,” Buttesnchon said.
“I’ve been an uncompromising critic of the Governor’s plan to close correctional facilities. I sponsored and passed a new law that safeguards the privacy and safety of all correctional officers. Collaborating with both Republicans and Democrats, I’ll continue to protect correctional officers in all our state prisons,” Buttenschon noted. “The 119th Assembly District is heavily dependent on its state correctional facilities. As a member of the Assembly’s Majority, I will tirelessly work on behalf of those correctional officers and their families.”
Formed in 1998, NYSCOPA represents over 26,000 New York State employees and retirees from the Security Services Unit, which includes police and correctional officers.
“As a dedicated and passionate leader, you have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of the members of NYSCOPBA. While serving in the State Assembly, you have consistently championed policies that reflect the values and priorities of NYSCOPBA. Whether it is advocating for better staffing levels, fighting to keep our facilities open, or just listening and understanding the difficult work that the members of NYSCOPBA perform, you have proven that you understand the needs of our members and you are willing to put in the hard work to make a difference,” said NYSCOPBA President Chris Summers in a letter to the Assemblywoman.
Assemblywoman Buttenschon is the candidate of the new and independent Mohawk Valley First Party and will also appear on Row A this November.
“As a dedicated and passionate leader, you have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the lives of members of NYSCOPBA…”
