Hamilton College is hosting two political discussions as part of its Common Ground series this April. Addressing some of the most pressing issues facing our nation, both events will be held in the campus Chapel at 7:30 p.m. They are free and are open to the public and promise to provide insightful discussions from experts across the political spectrum.
Congressional Differences: How Can We Tackle Today’s Biggest Issues? Climate, Guns, Borders, and Beyond
Date: Tuesday, April 2
This panel discussion features Hamilton alumnus and U.S. Representative from Pennsylvania Matt Cartwright and former U.S. Representative for Oklahoma Steve Russell. The conversation will be moderated by Mimi Geerges, host of C-SPAN’s Washington Journal. This event will delve into the challenges and opportunities in addressing critical issues such as climate change, gun control, and immigration.
State of the Race: Biden v. Trump and the Road to the White House
Date: Wednesday, April 10
As the 2024 presidential election approaches, this event will address the current political landscape and what to expect on the road to the White House. The panel features Democrat campaign strategist Aleigha Cavalier, vice president of mobilization and campaign management at Precision Strategies, and Republican strategist John Feeherey, partner of EFB Advocacy. Steve Scully, senior vice president of communications at the Bipartisan Policy Center, will moderate the discussion.
All Common Ground events are free and open to the public. Free parking is available in several lots on College Hill Road. The Chapel is located on Campus Road.
Common Ground is Hamilton’s multi-format program designed to explore cross-boundary political thought and complex social issues. Topics intertwined with the College’s curriculum are chosen to foster critical thinking and holistic examination of difficult and often contentious national and global policy issues.
