Ron Klopfanstein on “50 Years of Hip-Hop,” a special episode of The Hot Seat

Journalist Ron Klopfanstein with the 95.5 FM Utica Phoenix Radio “Heat Squad”

Hip-hop celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2023. On this episode of “The Hot Seat with Cassandra Harris Lockwood,” I outline its creation and evolution and discuss my interviews with the “Heat Squad,” Utica Phoenix Radio’s DJs, and on-air talent who talk about the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, how it evolved, and its cultural impact globally and locally. We also talk about the “Five Pillars of Hip-Hop” (rapping, MCing, breakdancing, graffiti art, and knowledge of the movement and oneself) and how they form the basis for a creative movement of community and culture.
