Community rallies behind Carthage teen injured in JV football game

He needs a miracle. The Carthage community and the entire North Country are trying to do everything possible to show support for a student who was seriously injured during a Junior Varsity football game over the weekend.

The family of Tyler Christman says the freshman at Carthage High School was hospitalized after suffering a great deal of brain swelling and bleeding in his frontal cortex during the Comets game at West Genesee Saturday.

The family says after an initial surgery, Tyler was not responding when stimulated, but does have some slight eye response and cough reflex. They say, however, Tyler is the definition of a fighter and this will be no different.

They took to social media to thank the community for it support and well wishes, which include the Carthage community along with students and staff at the school wearing red today, a display that has also reached other areas where a number of businesses and other school districts in the area are also wearing red.

We are pulling for Tyler and wishing him and his family the very best and will continue to update you as more information becomes available.
