The Kelberman Center for Autism Services would like to celebrate Autism Awareness Month by recognizing some of the families who have been a part of the Center’s history of success stories. The Humpf family have been longtime supporters of The Kelberman Center. They have three boys, Dalton, Cooper and their youngest son, Wyatt. Wyatt was diagnosed with Autism in 2007. He receives self-direction services through The Kelberman Center and over the years has attended other clubs and activities through the self-direction program. These opportunities have not only helped Wyatt, but his entire family. “It helps us cope with the challenges that Autism Spectrum Disorder brings, and to embrace and love the differences even more,” said Cooper Humpf.
The boys’ parents, Bob and Mindi Humpf, began raising awareness in their hometown of Holland Patent nearly a decade ago when they participated in their first Walk for Autism. In 2009, the Humpf’s oldest son, Dalton, decided to host a bowl-a-thon to raise awareness for autism and donated the proceeds to The Kelberman Center in honor of his younger brother Wyatt. The Pandemic altered that tradition, and instead of a bowl-a-thon, Wyatt’s other brother, Cooper, arranged a bottle and can drive. In 2020, the bottle and can drive raised $4,000 for autism services at the Kelberman Center! The 2021 bottle and can drive will take place on Sunday, April 25 from 9:00am to 5:00pm at the Holland Patent Fire House, located at 9531 Center Street in Holland Patent.
