
Utica, NY – Every year at 50 Forward Mohawk Valley we celebrate volunteers in our community through our Salute to Volunteers Event. During this event we celebrate the over 300 volunteers throughout Oneida County that so graciously give of their time throughout the year. We also recognize those that have gone above and beyond in their volunteerism, and this year we are excited to announce the following awardees:
Dawn LaGuerre – 50 Forward Community Champion. Dawn has been serving our community in a volunteer and advocacy capacity for decades. She has been involved in various organizations including: AARP, Empowered Pathways, MVCAA, NAACP, YWCA, MVILR, Alpha Kappa Alpha, and others. She has also been a champion for causes that impact older adults.
Jeanne Stone – 50 Forward Outstanding Service. Jeanne volunteers her time helping older adults at 50 Forward Verona Beach where she is an instructor of both Rock Steady Boxing and Matter of Balance. She has also been a volunteer at the front desk there for two years.
Ellen Luley – AmeriCorps Seniors Hometown Hero. Ellen has been a volunteer with AmeriCorps Seniors since 2020. She has taught StayYoung StrongBones classes for 50 Forward and has volunteered her time at the Utica Public Library and the Oneida County History Center.
Town of Verona Historical Association – AmeriCoprs Station of the Year. The Historical Association is a non-profit dedicated to preserving the history and culture of Durhamville, NY and its surrounding areas. They have a number of dedicated volunteers that have given over 1,000 hours of time in 2024.
Salute to Volunteers will be held on Thursday, April 24 from 10 am- 1 pm at Hart’s Hill Inn. More information can be found at 50forwardmv.org.
