WHY IT MATTERS:
Intimate partner violence remains one of the most serious and deadly crimes impacting families and communities. STRIVE will enable Oneida County to take a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach to preventing IPV and supporting survivors.
Through this initiative:
  • Survivors will have greater access to advocacy, emergency housing, crisis intervention, and counseling.
  • Law enforcement officers and prosecutors will receive advanced training in IPV-specific response and prosecution.
  • YWCA Mohawk Valley will provide on-site advocacy and wraparound services, ensuring victims receive the resources they need to heal and rebuild their lives.

QUOTES:
“Reducing intimate partner violence is not the responsibility of one office, one department, or one organization — it takes a united community response.”
— Dianne Stancato, CEO, YWCA Mohawk Valley
“As a career prosecutor, I have witnessed the violence that can occur behind closed doors. The STRIVE grant provides an opportunity to significantly expand resources for the District Attorney’s Office, the Utica Police Department, and the YWCA — investing in survivors through support, funding programs, and enhancing prosecutions to hold abusers accountable.”
— Todd Carville, Oneida County District Attorney
“We are immensely grateful to Governor Hochul and the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services for their unwavering support and the generous grant awarded to the County of Oneida and the Utica Police Department. This funding will significantly enhance our efforts to combat domestic violence, strengthen prosecutions, and expand investigations by our dedicated Domestic Violence Unit. Our focus will be on supporting victims and relentlessly pursuing the most violent offenders to create a safer community for all Utica residents.”
— Mark Williams, Chief of Police, Utica Police Department
