1oo,autism Utica Zoo Hosts Upcoming Autism Friendly Zoo Camp

UTICA The Utica Zoo will be hosting their first-ever autism-friendly Zoo Camp, designed to provide a supportive and engaging environment for children on the autism spectrum. The camp will take place from Monday, August 19th to Friday, August 23rd, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and is open to children ages 8-13.

This special camp theme, “Animal and Art,” will offer an investigative look into how animals use colors and patterns in their daily lives. Campers will explore these concepts through hands-on arts and crafts activities and enjoy presentations featuring our ambassador animals. This unique experience is designed to foster creativity, curiosity, and a deeper understanding of the natural world.

To ensure all participants feel comfortable and supported, parents, aides, or guardians are welcome to attend alongside their child if needed.

Pre-registration is required, and spots are limited, so we encourage families to sign up as soon as possible. To register, please visit http://www.uticazoo.org/zoocamp.

We are excited to offer this inclusive and educational opportunity,” said Zak Hughes, Education and Conservation Manager. “The Utica Zoo is meant to be a place for all, so we look forward to welcoming our campers for a week of fun, learning, and discovery at the Utica Zoo!”

The Utica Zoo remains dedicated to its mission of conservation, education, and animal well-being, striving to inspire and empower visitors to become stewards of the natural world.

The Utica Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. It is a regional destination that inspires and promotes the appreciation of wildlife through education, conservation, and recreation. Situated in the heart of Central New York, the zoo features a diverse collection of animals from around the world and offers various educational programs and events for visitors of all ages. It is home to approximately 200 exotic and domestic animals, welcoming nearly 100,000 visitors annually and is open daily from 10 am to 4:30 pm.
