Injured Lynx Kitten on the Mend

UTICA, NY —The Utica Zoo, an AZA-accredited facility committed to the highest standards of animal welfare and veterinary care is encouraged by the progress of one of its youngest residents, a lynx kitten recovering from a leg injury.
Lynx Kitten “Hadley” Recovering After Surgery
The zoo is pleased to report that Canada lynx kitten “Hadley” is recovering well following a leg injury sustained on August 29. Like many young, energetic animals, Hadley was being an adventurous and spirited kit when he suffered a broken left femur. He was quickly evaluated by the zoo’s veterinary team and transferred to Guardian Veterinary Specialists in Brewster, NY, for emergency surgery to repair the break.
Thanks to the expert care and flexibility of Guardian’s team—who took Hadley in on short notice over a holiday weekend—his surgery was a success. Hadley is currently recovering in a smaller adjacent holding area where he can still see and hear his family, maintaining a sense of connection while his mobility is temporarily limited. The zoo is taking a cautious approach to his rehabilitation, gradually allowing him more room to move and climb as his leg continues to heal.
The Utica Zoo remains committed to transparency and compassionate care as it navigates both the challenges and successes that come with managing the health and well-being of its animals. Guests can look forward to updates on Hadley’s progress in the coming weeks.
