“Since last week’s approval of my resolution by the Oneida County Board of Legislators to pursue legal action against New York State in response to Governor Hochul’s unjust executive order that prohibits any government within the state from hiring any of the correction officers fired en masse for any type of position, our County Attorney’s Office has been working diligently on a lawsuit and immediate injunction.
I am pleased to announce that motion will be filed within the next 48 hours, and as soon as it is, Oneida County will hire as many of these former state employees as we can to fill much-needed vacancies in the Sheriff’s Office and other County departments. The men and women who have honorably served the public despite unacceptable working conditions, do not deserve to be treated so terribly. It is a violation of their rights and of our home rule as local governments. We will not stand for such an abuse of power and will gladly give these dedicated workers the support and respect they are entitled to.”
