The 2024 Election: Unpacking the Results at Hamilton College

Republican and Democratic Leaders Debate on Nov. 14

Clinton, NY – The 2024 Election is shaping up to be one of the most consequential in recent history. As part of Hamilton College’s Common Ground Program, a Democratic and a Republican leader will discuss and debate the presidential and congressional election outcomes on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 in the college’s Chapel

This Common Ground conversation will explore the election results and what they mean for the future of our nation. All Common Ground events are free and open to the public. The event will be streamed live (https://www.hamilton.edu/academics/common-ground/events ) for those who cannot attend in-person.

Robert Doar became American Enterprise Institute’s 12th president in July 2019, leading one of the nation’s oldest and most respected public policy think tanks aligned closely with right-leaning ideologies. Since becoming president of the institute, he has recruited dozens of leading scholars and fellows across multiple issue areas and launched a new research division focused on social, cultural, and constitutional studies. Doar also served for more than 20 years in leadership positions in the social service programs of New York State and New York City.

Former U.S. Representative Michael Capuano, a Democrat, served as the U.S. Representative for Massachusetts’ 7th Congressional District from 1999-2019. He was a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Financial Services Committee, and chair of the Special Task Force on Ethics Enforcement. He previously served as the director of public affairs at an international law firm and was the mayor of Somerville from 1990-1999. Capuano is a Senior Policy Advisor at Venable LLP

Common Ground is Hamilton College’s widely acclaimed multi-format program designed to explore cross-boundary political thought and complex social issues. Topics intertwined with the College’s curriculum are chosen to foster critical thinking and holistic examination of difficult and often contentious national and global policy issues.

The College is grateful to Mary Helen and Robert Morris ’76, P’16,’17; and Lori and David Hess ’77 for their generous support of Common Ground.
