Mohawk Valley Community College will host the Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency Poverty Symposium at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, in the Jorgensen Athletic and Event Center Field House at the Utica Campus, 1101 Sherman Drive. The event was originally scheduled to begin at noon.
This year’s symposium, “Helping People, Changing Lives, Ending Poverty … Through Education” has a different emphasis than previous years’ events. It includes a poverty simulation, lunch, and testimonials by individuals who have struggled to obtain their education. Registration begins at 10, and the simulation starts at 10:30. The simulation experience is divided into four 15-minute sessions, each of which represents one week to provide for your family and maintain a home. Lunch and discussion — centering on the importance of education, the tools needed to succeed, and outcomes — will immediately follow.
