Gun buyback aims to get firearms off Albany’s streets

With the holidays around the corner, one local program is offering an incentive to those who help get firearms off the streets of Albany this Christmas.

Victory Church teamed up with the Albany Court district attorney to collect illegal firearms.

Those who turn in their firearm will be rewarded with a Visa gift card.

This is the 10th year of this program, with over 600 illegal firearms turned in during that time.

Pastor Charlie Muller says this program is an important step for helping the community and the next generation.

“If we could stay active this year, active in our community. Really making it easy for kids to enter into positive programming and get them away from the negative,” Muller said. “I think we can be very successful this year.”

The church on Quail Street collected firearms Saturday with all handovers being anonymous.

Residents can also reach out to the church about gun pickups.
