Everson Museum displays trees, hosts musical groups

It’s the last weekend to take advantage of a popular holiday art display in downtown Syracuse.

The 36th annual Festival of Trees and Light will take place through the weekend at the Everson Museum.

Museum officials said since the exhibit opened a few weeks ago, there have been more than 4,000 people who have checked it out. Organizers at the Everson said it’s the community support and the hard work of many volunteers.

This year, there are around two dozen trees as part of the display, which all have a creative theme. The trees, which range in size, are spread out throughout the museum.

As you stroll through the facility, you’ll notice trees with sweet treat themes to those that focus more on light and decorative art.

You can also do some last-minute holiday shopping while proceeds go back to help the museum.

Organizers say they’ve had quite a bit of entertainment each night as part of this year’s event. That gives many groups and organizations an opportunity to get their talents out in the community.

“Both students and professionals performing, including the Syracuse City Ballet, school groups, and dance and music recitals from different organizations.  In addition, we have Saturday activities, Sunday activities, where we focus on the family and making connections to the community,” said Everson Museum Festival of Trees and Light Co-Chair Lizbeth Herrick.

Herrick said while the event is a hit with adults, kids can enjoy craft-making and storytelling sessions this weekend.

You can also purchase the trees, the items on them, or do some shopping in the Holiday Marketplace.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Children younger than 12 are admitted free, but the fee is $5 on Saturday.
