The Class A championship game was expected to be a blowout. But, not like this.
After losing to Indian River, 51-20 last month, the CBA Brothers were thought to be in line for another loss in the Section III title game rematch Friday night.
But, apparently, they did not get the memo.
Quarterback Jordan Rae hit star receiver Syair Torrence for three first-half touchdowns to help the sixth-seeded Brothers jump out to a 26-0 lead at intermission.
Syair’s older brother, Symir, was seen applauding his efforts from the stands alongside current SU basketball teammate, Buddy Boeheim.
And the Orange duo had plenty to cheer about after the break as well.
CBA (6-3) scored 29 more points in the third quarter to quickly douse any hopes of a Warriors’ comeback, adding one last touchdown in the fourth quarter to eclipse the 60-point mark for the first time all season.
Indian River (6-1), who entered the game as the top seed in the Class A bracket, scored 20 points in the fourth quarter to make the score only slightly more respectable.
Star running back Rowan Marsell rushed for more than 180 yards in his final scholastic game, and scored Indian River’s final touchdown.
Rae passed for seven touchdowns in all to lead the Brothers to their third straight upset victory, and the 12th sectional title in school history.
