TIDAL Creates HBCU-Themed Playlists Just In Time For Homecoming

Homecoming is here!

This month, many historically Black colleges and universities are participating in their biggest week of the year — Homecoming. Alumni of HBCUs are driving in, taking flights, or joining in online celebrating the Black college experience.

Several HBCUs have chosen not to gather again this year and have paused traditional homecomings events due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Morehouse College canceled their homecoming festivities scheduled for the week of Oct. 10. Howard University administration has planned a hybrid homecoming this year, slated for Oct. 16-24, with in-person and virtual events.

Many alums, broken-hearted over the homecoming cancellations, have shared their favorite Homecoming throwback moments on Twitter.

Fortunately for us, the HBCU spirit is still alive! TIDAL has released over ten playlists for any homecoming festivities both on and off-campus, signifying HBCUs’ influence on Black culture.

Each playlist ranges in categories recognizing the various aspects of the Black college experience, from Stroll & Step Songs to Black Excellence, which pays homage to pioneers of past, present, and future. These carefully curated playlists are centered around HBCUs’ vibrant campus life and include popular music videos from every college year; listeners will be able to hear and feel the music’s authenticity.

The digital streaming service says its “HBCU Homecoming is one example of TIDAL showcasing its commitment to celebrating the different cultures that make us by highlighting their significance, influence, and contributions to the music we love.”
