Time is running out if you plan to voice your thoughts on the future of Interstate-81. After a three month public comment period, today is the deadline to submit your comments and concerns to the state Department of Transportation.
The DOT identified the community grid as its preferred alternative to replace the I-81 viaduct. The plan would tear down the current viaduct and make street level improvements.
Several public meetings have been held the past few months to highlight the impact in numerous communities. Many have expressed opinions on details like proposed exits, traffic signals and a roundabout on the south side.
“We have received a lot of very good comments from the community and from the public and all comments are taken into consideration. So, our next steps are to address comments. And, there are thousands of comments,” said NYS DOT I-81 Viaduct Project Director Mark Frechette.
All comments will be reviewed by the state. Those comments will help put together the Final Environmental Impact Statement by early next year.
There are a few different ways you can submit comments to the state about the project. You can send your comments in with an online form on the DOT’s website by email at I81opportunities@dot.ny.gov or by calling (315) 703-4181.
