Rochester woman delivers COVID care packages to people

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The pandemic has shown that kindness can go a long way. That includes looking out for those stuck in isolation.

One Rochester woman takes time to comfort those with the virus who are stuck at home.

Sometimes the biggest gestures come in small packages. And occasionally the best medicine — isn’t medicine at all.

Shabree Hightower Shaw is here to make people feel better.

“It comes from just having a passion to just want to be a blessing to some people who were affected by COVID,” she said.

The supplies she packs into care bags come not only from out of her own pocket — but from her heart.

“So I just wanted to be a small part of, you know, others’ road to recovery,” Shabree said. “You know, even if it’s just helping you manage your symptoms. I can’t cure you, I can’t, you know, do anything beyond my means. But what I can do is help you.”

So Shabree heads out the door to deliver COVID care packages.

Lovely Bee Mobil COVID Care started after her son’s babysitter came down with it and was unable to go out and get supplies.

“She really made me feel like I was doing what I was supposed to do,” said Shabree.

To keep everyone safe, it’s a no-contact delivery with door-to-door service.

“A lot of times I wish I could do more, you know,” Shabree said.

She sends a text to the person on the receiving end to let them know their care package has arrived.

“I travel to wherever you need me,” said Shabree.

Shabree says she delivers COVID care packages all over the city. She’s accepting donations, so she can do more.

“Cuz at one point in time we thought COVID was kind of like, you know, drifting,” she said. “Drifting away on us, and then it just came back.”

So she keeps going back. Call it — her calling.

“You know, I feel like I’m doing what God has called me to do,” Shabree said. “But, you know, this is like another level of fulfillment to make sure that, you know, people in the community know someone cares about them.”

“It’s just something to let people know they’re being thought about,” she added.

Shabree says many of her requests for help come in response to her Facebook posts.
