NEW CLASSES AT THE KIRKLAND ART CENTER

Clinton, NY – The Kirkland Art Center is offering up some fresh new classes this spring and summer including dance, art, pottery, fitness and wellness. “We brought in five new instructors for the spring session, which we are very excited about,” said Tim Rand, the KAC’s Marketing Director.

“We are expanding our offerings for pottery so along with our regular Wednesday evening wheel throwing class with Roger Honey, we have Weekends with Kira, our new pottery instructor.” New to the area, she’ll be offering a four-week Intro to Pottery class running April 7-28, Pinch Pot Mania on April 22nd, Earth Day, and a two-day adult pottery workshop on April 14 and 15th.

Lindsey Dunnagan will be flying in from Missouri to teach a watercolor workshop on April 8th. The artist and educator will be in town for her opening reception at the KAC, featuring works by three artists who hail from the East Coast, West Coast, and Mid-West. She will start the morning off with an artist talk at 11am, followed by her three-hour class at noon. Students will learn the basics like how to make washes and then create their own piece, implementing graphite transfers and other tricks of the trade. The Opening Reception runs from 4:00 – 6:00 pm.

Rand will also be teaching a class of his own on Wednesday evenings in May. The Grid Portrait and Portfolio Building class will include instruction in not only his trademark style, he runs Tarat Studio at 84 Utica Street with the big portraits outside, but also information on how to photograph, frame, and format your work once it is finished. “It is important to know how to showcase your work in the digital age and a lot of artists struggle with this.” The class will help teach some of these important skills to high schoolers and adults.

The KAC’s Fitness and Wellness classes are expanding as well. Along with popular favorites like Zumba®, Edna Rodriguez-Plate of Hamilton College will teach Qigong Wellness: The Dragon’s Way®. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it includes learning ten Wu Ming Qigong movements. When practiced regularly they have the ability to “clean-up” the body, and increase overall energy. These powerful qigong movements are easy to do, and can be practiced by everyone. It is a unique way to reach a more balanced life, restore quality health, and move forward in life feeling great. Qigong classes begin April 9th at 6pm.

Michael Cologero of 315 Yoga will bring his experience, teaching yoga Wednesday evenings 6:00 -7:00 and Saturday mornings 9:00 – 10:00 in the KAC’s main gallery. Enjoy beginning to intermediate yoga in a unique environment, surrounded by inspiring art.

The KAC has also announced dates for their summer dance schedule which include June Interim (June 12-28), the Recreational Session (July 9 – August 1), and the Ballet Intensive (Auguest 6 – 17). To sign up for any of these classes, please visit www.kacny.org or contact them at 315-853-8871.
