Thanks UFD and SZW!

Thanks UFD and SZW! Members of the Utica Fire Department are seen here filling the water tank for the Community Garden on Linwood Place. The recent drought in the Mid-West and our own area’s water shortages have underscored the importance of the support of the UFD.

Predictions are that all food prices will continue to climb so the importance of the Community Gardens will continue to grow as well. As more neighbors join in the watering and the weeding and reseeding of beds the gardens will serve to build relationships providing a space for people to get to know each other on common ground.

Scalzo, Zogby & Wittig’s Matt Briggs and his friend Greg Cardillo, seen on the front cover, cap off the new pergola they built in the Jay Street Garden this past Saturday. Drive by and take a look at the simple beauty and graceful cover they constructed for urban gardeners to take a break from the hot summer sun.
