HCCC to Launch New Partnership with Cazenovia College

October 31st 2012   ·   0 Comments

Herkimer, NY—Herkimer County Community College will launch a new partnership with Cazenovia College in fall 2013. HCCC students who earn an associate degree in Criminal Justice or 60+ credits with prerequisites, will have transfer status into a Cazenovia College baccalaureate program in Criminal Justice and Homeland Security Studies, to be offered on the HCCC campus in Herkimer, NY.

The part-time program will offer at least two courses for the degree each semester, each offered one night per week. For students needing to make up a general education prerequisite, online courses may be available. A final summer course will be completed over two weekends at Cazenovia. Students will have complete access to Cazenovia’s on-line library and resources, and will be charged $220 per credit hour for Cazenovia College tuition at Herkimer.

Dr. Robin Voetterl, Associate Dean for Humanities and Social Sciences, is coordinating the effort for Herkimer. Voetterl states, “This partnership with Cazenovia College represents a new model in education. It brings a high-quality bachelor’s degree to the Herkimer campus, and by doing so we provide a new opportunity for our students. With low tuition rates, a part-time pace and evening classes, Herkimer students can get the upper division education they need to improve their lives and earning potential, without the hurdles of traditional education. Students don’t have to move, commute or take out large loans to complete their degrees—all benefits that are very important to our students.”

Herkimer’s associate in science degree in Criminal Justice requires courses focusing on law, criminology, criminal justice and private security. Electives are offered in areas such as policing, juvenile justice, corrections and security.
