August 15, 2012, Utica, NY—Valley Health Services (VHS) and The Stanley proudly present GLADYS KNIGHT in concert at The Stanley on Friday, September 28th at 8pm. The event is possible through lead sponsor Excellus. Other sponsors include: Meyda Tiffany, Utica First Insurance, Brown and Brown Insurance, Empire Recycling Corporation, Confidata, Nexstar Broadcasting, Roser Communications, and The Observer Dispatch.
The great ones endure and Gladys Knight has long been one of the greatest. Very few singers over the last fifty years have matched her unassailable artistry. This seven-time Grammy winner has enjoyed #1 hits in pop, R&B and Adult Contemporary, and has triumphed in film, television and live performances, including her time as a fan favorite on this season’s “Dancing With The Stars.”
Knight, known as the “Empress of Soul,” a longtime Las Vegas resident, returned to the Strip this past year to the famed Tropicana Hotel for a special engagement that ran in the newly named Gladys Knight Theater, making her the first African- American performer to have a venue named after her in Las Vegas. And last fall she was honored with the “Legend Award” at the 2011 Soul Train Awards. As a solo artist she has won four GRAMMY Awards including Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal with Elton John, Dionne Warwick and Stevie Wonder for “That’s What Friends Are For” in 1986, and Best Gospel Choir Or Chorus Album for One Voice in 2005.
Tickets are $125, $85, $75, and $55 and go on sale this Friday, August 17 at 10am. They can be purchased through The Stanley box office, by calling 724-4000 or ticketmaster charge by phone 1-800-745-3000, or visiting ticketmaster.com or thestanley.org. A pre-show dinner at the Fort Schuyler Club and a post-show reception in the Romano Room at The Stanley are available for an additional cost of $50 per person. Tickets for the dinner are limited and will be sold on a first come, first served basis.
