First Snow!

UTICA PHOENIX NEWS

The Utica area has been blessed this winter with mild temperatures, and, previously, a lack of snow. Christmas squeaked by without a hint of the white-stuff finding its way to the city, much to the chagrin of winter sports lovers, and those looking for a “White Christmas.”

That all ended on Wednesday, Dec. 28. Uticans awoke to snow falling, which persisted throughout the day, covering the city’s black roads white, and sending patrons scrambling to the store for rock salt, snow brushes, and shovels.

However, not all was work and no play. Some local residents took advantage of the snow to utilize the ski slope area of Val Bialas to pass the winter blues. Left, Zack Stanek (Utica, NY) performs a nose grab at the Val Bialas Sports Center in Utica, NY. (Photo by Mike Beck, theKDCF.com).
