DNC Delegates Reporting on Day 2

September 4th 2012   ·   3 Comments

Common Councilman Jerome McKinsey and Oneida County Legislator deliver Day Two Wrap Up -

Jerome-  We’ve had a lot of Senators and Congressmen teaching us the mechanics of process and particulars of individual  strategies and subjects they want us  to push when we get back home. Ways to respond to what they call the social issues, like abortion and pro-choice and the right to marry who you love. The message is that we have to be inclusive.  And we have to work with Republicans.

There is a myth that’s been spread that Black people are intolerant of Gays. I don’t believe that. There may be some pockets of it in places but I find that Black people over all are more tolerant and accepting and inviting than others to alternative lifestyles.

The pundits are wrong on the Black culture hating Gays or not accepting them. We just don’t talk about it in public like some people do. I’m talking about any type of sexuality.  We just don’t discuss our sexuality, heterosexuality or otherwise on the news or out in the open. It’s not part of our culture.  We are accepting and discrete.  Black people are discrete. We fell that your sexuality should remain in your bedroom.

Franklin- Some people like to quote scripture to justify their hatred. As a heterosexual and Christian I am familiar the Bible. Justice and mercy was more important to Jesus than just following aspects of the law.

For some time now I’ve felt that the Republicans  lack substance so  they spend the bulk of their time trying to put their monkey wrench in the Democrats plans.

One thing has been driven home here seeing Democratic party at work is that this is America. It’s not White America, or one race, or one culture . America is a melting pot with many different  people many different walks of life and lifestyles. If we don’t inject some Love as a country we will continue to decline and destroy ourselves. We’re all here in this one country, regardless if you agree with the other guy or not. They Republicans need to forget about trying to control someone extend some Love.

Jerome – Bill Clinton was like the Dragon Slayer. He is a fact machine. He refuted all the mess the Republicans shot their mouths out about this President. Bill Clinton straightened  the whole thing out.

President Obama inherited the worst economy our country has had since the Great Depression. Our country was losing multiple millions of jobs in ’08. The Republicans were ready to shut down Detroit. They were already letting that city go bankrupt. That meant smothering and killing off the car industry which is vital to the American economy.

President Obama saved the auto industry by bailing them out. Romney was going to let them die. Now they’re  showing a profit and coming back. How many jobs are coming back when they are fully restored that would never have come back if the Republicans had their way?

Franklin- The President managed to keep student loan interest rates low to keep more students in school and make it possible for the reeducation of workers to be able to step into the jobs of the new economy. There are jobs out there now if people had the education and training to step into them.

This President is also committed to getting the troops out of Afghanistan. That will be pulling that money back with to this country with them.

Jerome- Iraq and Afghanistan are wars the Republicans got us into. Obama got Ben Laden and now he’s getting us out of there. That money will be able to increase funding in strategic  infrastructure  and investment in education to enable more students moving into nanotechnology that will ultimately benefit our area.

But in addition we have to win back the Senate. The Democrats have built up a nice momentum to take back home. We need a majority in the Senate so that we won’t have the resistance we’ve had to deal with.

Franklin – I’m glad they talked about the bumps and bruises the President took. It didn’t matter to the Republicans if a measure was good or bad. They were just obstructionists. It’s not profitable to shoot down the good with the bad. We need to simply replace them in the Senate so that the President can freely move on those initiatives for change.

It didn’t matter to the Republicans, good or bad, they were  voting it down. The can make all of the excuses they want but Mitt and them talked about backing the same proposals earlier on but when the   Democratic President proposed it they can’t go for anything the President put on table.

Keep us in touch with your perspective of the events. Many of us working folks can not stay up late to see live coverage on TV. We have to read about it the next day.
